6 South End is a traditional waterfront cottage on its own pier situated just off the winding flagstoned street that runs through the heart of Stromness and only 15 minutes walk from the ferry terminal.

Breath-taking views over Scapa Flow to the Orphir
hills and to the harbour can be seen from the pier or from the
comfort of the low ceilinged cottage with its open fire
and the windows on its north, south and east facing walls.

In its prime location, with its thoughtful use of fabrics and decoration, No. 6 makes a perfect
base in which to relax. The cosy living room, which includes a well equipped kitchen/dining
area, has a plentiful supply of books, magazines and music. Fresh flowers and original
paintings add to the atmosphere.

The sound of lapping water can be heard from the single and double bedrooms
where beds are ready made up with crisp cotton bed linen. Mid winter sunrises
may be experienced from the east facing window.

From the stone pier, the call of gulls, eider ducks
and many other birds can be heard whilst watching
fishing boats and ferries plying to and fro with the
occasional seal bobbing past.

The large boat shed provides ample storage and drying space for outdoor equipment

No.6 is the ideal base for the many interests Orkney
has to offer such as ancient monuments, diving, bird
watching, arts, crafts and music.

Stromness Sailing Club and golf course are
only 5 minutes walk away. Car and bicycle
hires are available locally.

The historic town of Stromness with its narrow twisting lanes, slips and piers has changed
little in character over the years but is a lively and thriving community of approximately
2,000 inhabitants. Excellent local produce is available in the broad range of shops,
restaurants and pubs. Entertainment is varied and plentiful with galleries, a museum,
swimming pool and library with e-mail facilities. Regular music sessions and almost
monthly festivals take place between April and October.
